Curare X physostigmine
( Drug Antagonism)Procedure:-
1.Weigh a rabbit, prepare the ear for I.V. drug administration.2.Fill your syringe with a solution of d-tubocurarine( 100 mg/ml).
3.A syringe with Physostigmine (50 mg/ml) solution should be ready before the start of the experiment.4.Curare is slowly injected into the marginal ear vein until the head drops. Avoid giving excessive amount( usually less than 300 mg).
5.As soon as the head of the rabbit drops, Physostigmin should be given promptly till recovery( i.e reversal of curare effect- usually 50-75 mg/kg).
6.Don't give too much Physostigmine too quickly.
Sequence of function loss
1.Muscles of the eye & the face.2.Fingers & limbs.
3.Neck muscles
4.Intercostal muscles.
5.Diaphragm
