Normal breast tissue: Note the duct, lobules and fibrofatty stroma

Myoepitheial cells, around ductal epithelium , stained for actin

fibrocystic changes of the breast, adenosis, fibrosis, cystic dilatation +/- apocrine changes

Fibrocystic changes with Apocrine change (large tall cells with granular eosinophilic cytoplasm) fibrosis, cystic dilatation

fibrocystic changes of the breast, adenosis, fibrosis, cystic dilatation &apocrine changes

Adenosis, back to back glands with little stroma

Epithelial hyperplasia: Increase number of lining epithelium of ducts and /or lobles: Mild hyperplasia

moderate hyperplasia

Atypical hyperplasia

Fibroadenoma of breast-The mass is well-circumscribed. Grossly it is firm and rubbery. With yellow tan nodular cut surface.

This fibroadenoma has compressed ducts surrounded by fibrous stroma .

In situ carcinoma: The ducts (or lobules) are filled with atypical cells, having varies histological architecture and all are limited by the basement memebrane of the ducts

Comedo ductal carcinoma in situ: The ducts filled with atypical cells, the central part show coagulative necrosis. This is a high grade type of DCIS

Paget's disease of the breast . Note the overlying hyperkeratosis of the skin with eczemal like lesion.

Paget's disease of the breast . The large cells infiltrating into the epidermis represent intraepithelial extension of an underlying ductal carcinoma in situ or invasive ductal carcinoma.

Invasive breast carcinoma: irregular firm to hard mass, whitish greyish, ill-defined borders

Invasive breast carcinoma: irregular firm to hard mass, whitish greyish, ill-defined borders

Infiltrative ductal carcinoma, irregular glandular & trabecullar pattern surrounded by desmplasia & infiltrating nerve fiber

About 5 to 10% of breast cancers are of infiltrative lobular carcinoma. There is about a 20% chance that the opposite breast will also be involved, and many of them arise multicentrically in the same breast. The cells show indian file pattern (rows of cells)
