Answer:

Genetic and ethnic factors.
Increased in native Americans but very low in southern Chinese and Africans
positive family history 12-33%
10 times increase risk if affected parent, times increase risk if sibling affected.
intrauterine factors
breech position
oligohydroamnios
neuromuscular conditions like myelomeningocele
high association with intrauterine molding abnormalities including metatarsus adductus and torticollis
first born baby.
female baby ( 80% cases).
left hip more common.
